Professor MovieBob's The Big Picture

Hi, to all of you... Guy who reads this blog (for some reason).

In this post I'm going to introduce you to a guy who can truly see the big picture in any given entertainment medium.

His name is Bob Chipman, known as MovieBob, from The Escapist. He is a part time critic, part time independent film director, but he knows about everything (I wonder how much does he know about the Elongated Man and the Justice League International). Video Games, comics, movies, animation. However, admittedly, he doesn't know about music, Power Rangers and Dr. Who, and I've never watched him talk about sitcoms.

I might not meet him in the eye a 100% of the times (about the 90s being better than the 80s, for instance), but even so, I always end up learning something from him.

When it comes to broad topics, I always end up forgetting which video contains what, and that's the actual reason for this post. I'll use this space as a guide to my favorite MovieBob videos, which I'll keep expanding.

HOLLYWOOD

"Hollywood 101, part I": It's about the Studio Era, dominated by the big five. This was it's golden age and some of the best movies were made.

"Hollywood 101, part II": The fall of the business with the rise of TV. Blockbusters started during this era and producers tried to pander to teenagers.

"Hollywood 101, part III"
: The 70s and the influence of college-educated directors: the movie brats and the older misfits. The success of Star Wars attracted corporations, who bought the major studios and ended the era.

"Hollywood 101, supplemental: The Code": Censorship during the golden age and how it crippled the industry towards the 60s.

"Broken Biz": Independent films, current studio-backed art house productions as"independent films", and established franchises (toys, video games, animated series, comics, old movies) as topics for all the new blockbusters.

"The Oscars: The Grouse": The reason there is an oscar season and a blockbuster season.

"The New Originals": The need to support movies not based on old franchises.

"Baggage": How contemporary criticism only serves commercial purposes.

Hollywood genres and styles

"Broken Movies": The new tendency to "franchise" or make serials.

By this point you're probably already hooked. However...
MORE VIDEOS COMING SOON.
